How To Have A Great Funeral

It is all too often that we forget all the intricacies that go into a funeral. We come to pay respects to a person who has passed on and to help console their family for their loss in time of mourning. We never realize all that goes into a funeral and what is needed to properly execute one.

Even before a person departs from this world, they might want to make sure as to how their last journey would be after they leave this world. There are choices in this regard whether one wants to be cremated or have a traditional burial. Cremation saves money but the traditional form of burial would be the real homage one would pay to a person who has left this world.

Cremation can be done at the request of the deceased and can also be involved in some symbolism. More times than not, there are request to spread ashes in places that represent happiness or freedom such as the ocean or on a mountain top. If no request was made then the ashes are placed into an urn for safekeeping.

If a classic burial is in order, then the choices become even more involved. Selecting a casket can be compared to selecting a fine piece of furniture. Naturally, budget constraints are a consideration and it is comforting to know that caskets are made in a variety of styles, from many different materials. They can range from lavish to simple, and should be selected to not only fall within a particular price range, but to reflect the personality of the loved one who will be resting therein.

Burial location is another thing to consider for the funeral procession. Many people elect to be buried by their parish or in a grave that is close to where they grew up. There is a mentality that a person would like to leave earth the same place that they came into it, which again, is another example of the symbolism of a funeral.

And, how would your loved one prefer to have their resting place marked? A tombstone is a critical element in burial planning, and again, there are a myriad of choices - different materials, shapes, sizes, and significance can be apparent in a tombstone. While a headstone will almost always include the departed’s name and dates of birth and death, it may also include a quotation that was dear to that person, or something personal that will always remind friends and family of that person in a unique way.

In a number of cases, memorial services are also organized in honor of those who could not partake of the funeral or at times in order to pay respects to the bereaved family and to the departed member. A portrait of the dead person by the side of the casket is a common sight when people come to offer their homage. The family members of the deceased assemble later to privately mourn the loss with friends and family.

For some people, it is difficult to come to grips with funeral and the procession, but many deem it as a beautiful experience. Attending the funeral of a departed soul is the last tribute one can pay and this has been the practice for centuries and will remain so till the end.
